Interpretation of the Statistical Report

  1. Requests Received Under the Privacy Act

Between April 1, 2006, and March 31, 2007, WD received three (3) requests for personal information under the Privacy Act.  All requests were completed during the reporting period:  two within the initial 30-day period, and one within 31-60 days to allow for consultations.

Each request was different in nature:  information provided to a federal/provincial secretariat office for program funding; a former WD employee; and an individual who was unsuccessful in a staffing action.

All records were disclosed for one of the requests, and two were disclosed in part.
  2. Costs and Organization Changes

Total salary costs associated with the Privacy Act are estimated at $842.40 for 2006-2007.  Other costs amounted to $51.20, for a total of $893.60.  The associated employee resources for 2006-2007 are fixed at one-hundredth of one full-time equivalent (FTE) for administering the Act.

This reduction in costs from 2005-2006 can be attributed to the smaller nature of the requests, and fewer records which required processing.
  3. Permissible Disclosure of Personal Information

Personal information collected by WD in the course of its programs and activities is being disclosed only for the purpose for which it was collected in accordance with paragraph 8(2)(a) of the Privacy Act.  During 2006-2007, WD did not disclose personal information for any other purposes as outlined in paragraphs 8(2)(b) through (m) inclusively.
  4. Exemptions Invoked

On two occasions, Section 26 was invoked to protect information pertaining to the personal information of individuals other than the requestor.  All other information was released in its entirety.
