Thank-you. Good morning. Bonjour.

It is my pleasure to be here today in Castlegar. I have been visiting a number of beautiful communities in British Columbia this week and I have to say that Castlegar is no exception.

Thank you to the City of Castlegar for hosting us today at this library. Facilities like this bring families and residents together while providing a firm foundation for continued growth. And through helping to improve them we are ensuring prosperous Canadian communities for years to come.

I am delighted to see that our Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, or CIIF, is being met with enthusiasm here in British Columbia, throughout Western Canada, and all across our great country. Investments through CIIF are upgrading existing community infrastructure, while generating a host of additional benefits in the process.

I was on Vancouver Island two days ago, announcing funding for a recreation centre in Saanich to install a new energy efficient lighting system and motion sensors. And in Duncan, CIIF funding is helping to upgrade a fitness circuit at the local Sportsplex. Yesterday, I had to the pleasure of being up north in Smithers, where I announced support for 3 projects in the area. All of these projects illustrate how this Fund is a key part of our Government’s plan to create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity.

When I launched CIIF, in my hometown of Kenaston, Saskatchewan back in July, the response we received was tremendous. And I am so happy that I get to travel to communities all across the West, and see the great projects that are underway with the help of our Government.

Here in Castlegar, the Castlegar and District Public Library is an important part of community life, where local residents can come together to read, study, learn and take advantage of the many benefits that a community library provides. There is, however, room for improvements to the facility, and so I am pleased to announce over $14,000 is being provided to help upgrade the library’s infrastructure, under the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund. This investment will serve to enhance the experience and services provided by the library, and will support the creation of jobs, growth, and long-term prosperity for the community of Castlegar.

With the funding being announced today, the City of Castlegar will be upgrading the library’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. On top of the benefit of providing a controlled climate for library patrons, this project will also ensure that the library has modern, reliable components that help improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption.

I look forward to seeing the result of this investment and the benefits that will surely come with it. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity. Together, we are building a stronger West for a stronger Canada.

Thank you. Merci
