Thank you. Good morning everyone. Bonjour.

It is my pleasure to be here today in Saanich. It has been awhile since I’ve been to Vancouver Island, and I am very glad to be back!

Thank you to the District of Saanich for welcoming me and hosting us today at the G.R Pearkes Recreation Centre. Facilities like this bring families and residents together while providing a firm foundation for continued growth. And through helping to improve them we are ensuring prosperous Canadian communities for years to come.

I am delighted to see that our Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, or CIIF, is being met with enthusiasm in Western Canada, and all across our great country.

Investments through CIIF are upgrading existing community infrastructure, while generating a host of additional benefits in the process. This Fund is a key part of our Government’s plan to create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity.

When I launched CIIF, in my hometown of Kenaston, Saskatchewan back in July, the response we received was tremendous. And I am so happy that I get to travel to communities all across the West, and see the great projects that are being worked on, with the help of our Government.

Here in Saanich, the G.R. Pearkes Recreation Centre is an important part of community life, where residents of all ages can take advantage of the ice rinks, sports courts, library, weight room and multitude of other amenities.

There is, however, room for improvements to the facility, and so I am pleased to announce a $56,000 investment to the District of Saanich under the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund. This investment will serve to enhance the experience and services provided by the Recreation Centre, and will support the creation of jobs, growth, and long-term prosperity for the community of Saanich.

Specifically, funding will help install a new energy efficient lighting system in the Gold Rink, Green Rink and arena lobby areas.

I look forward to seeing the result of this investment and the benefits that will surely come with it.

By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.

Together, we are building a stronger West for a stronger Canada.

Thank you. Merci.
