Today, Candice Bergen, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety and Member of Parliament for Portage—Lisgar, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for improvements to the Royal Canadian Legion in Morden under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
Our Government is continuing to support communities across Canada by investing in local infrastructure, such as the Morden Legion," said MP Bergen. "
This project will make the Legion building more accessible for all members and patrons. Upgrading the washroom facilities will greatly enhance the legion making it more user friendly"
The Harper Government's investment of $46,153 will allow the Morden Legion to renovate the men's and women's washrooms in its clubroom and hall to make them fully accessible for legion members and all patrons. The Morden Legion is a popular gathering place for seniors and veterans in South Central Manitoba. By making these investments in local infrastructure, we are helping families and communities renew valuable community assets while creating jobs and economic growth.
The Morden Legion is excited and thankful to receive CIIF funding for our washroom renovation project," said Wayne Hosea, President. "
The new washrooms will enhance our facility and everyone will truly benefit."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating, small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
