Harper Government Invests in Improvements to Provost’s Community Infrastructure

May 24, 2013
Provost, Alberta

Today, Leon Benoit, Member of Parliament for Vegreville—Wainwright, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for the Provost Recreation and Culture Centre under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

The Provost Recreation and Culture Centre has been serving the Town of Provost for over 20 years,” said MP Benoit. “This investment is another example of how our Government is helping to maintain a high quality of life for residents in our local communities and right across Alberta.

The Harper Government’s investment of $70,050 will support the installation of an air conditioning system in the Provost Recreation and Culture Centre which consists of two halls and a bowling centre. This upgrade will provide users with a more comfortable space to enjoy bowling, community events and private functions for years to come.

The Town of Provost Recreation Board, a committee of the Town of Provost and the Municipal District of Provost No. 52, would like to thank the Government of Canada and MP Leon Benoit, for funding for the Air Conditioning Project for the Provost Recreation and Culture Centre under the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund,” said His Worship Ken Knox, Mayor of the Town of Provost. “Air conditioning will enhance the Provost Recreation and Culture Centre for the numerous functions held and the many user groups. This kind of support allows the Provost Recreation Board to continue to improve their facilities.

In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.

Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
