Harper Government Invests in Improvements to Lac du Bonnet’s Community Infrastructure

April 05, 2013
Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba

Today, James Bezan, Member of Parliament for Selkirk—Interlake, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for the Lac du Bonnet & District Sports Arena under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

"I am proud to see Lac du Bonnet benefit from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund," said MP Bezan. "These upgrades will increase the arena's energy efficiency and improve accessibility, making it possible for all community members to enjoy."

The Harper Government's investment of $49,500 will enhance the services provided by the Lac du Bonnet & District Sports Arena. The arena will receive new lighting and fixtures, as well as improvements to its washrooms and its emergency system. Additionally, a wheelchair accessible ramp will be installed and the ice shed beams will be refurbished. This investment will not only create jobs but help create safer and more accessible infrastructure and support the prosperity of the community for years to come.

"We are extremely pleased to receive this support from the Government of Canada," said Trevor Jenvenne, Chair, Lac du Bonnet & District Sports Arena Board. "Our arena is a social and recreational hub of the community of Lac du Bonnet and the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund investment will allow us to complete much needed upgrades to make our facility a safer, more accessible and environmentally friendly community gathering place."

In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.

Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating, small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
