Today, Robert Sopuck, Member of Parliament for Dauphin—Swan River—Marquette, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for schools in the Regional Municipality of Hamiota under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
Sporting and recreational activities play a very strong role in Hamiota,” said MP Sopuck. “
I am proud to see Hamiota benefit from our investments in community infrastructure. This investment will help create jobs, growth and will help to boost economic activity while promoting health and wellness in our community.”
The Harper Government’s investment of $100,250 will support the RM of Hamiota by upgrading the activity centre at the Hamiota Collegiate and replacing the play structure at the Hamiota Elementary School. These structures are an important part of school life for students and will also provide recreational options for community members, daycares and fitness groups. These upgrades will provide a healthy and active environment in Hamiota for years to come.
Our Parent Advisory Council is very pleased to receive this amazing funding. This project has brought our entire community together, everyone from great grandparents to preschoolers have helped us reach this goal,” said Paula Lints, Chair, Hamiota Parent Advisory Committee. “
Thanks to the unbelievable support from our RM Council, the business community, the community at large and now Western Economic Diversification Canada, we can provide our students, in both of our schools, with the play areas that they need and deserve.”
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating, small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in
pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
