Today, Ray Boughen, Member of Parliament for Palliser, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for Rouleau’s arena upgrades under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
Our Government is pleased to support infrastructure projects across the country like the Rouleau arena upgrading,” said MP Boughen. “
Our investments in local infrastructure will benefit Canadian families and communities immediately, helping to support job creation, boosting economic activity, as well as leave a lasting legacy of modernized community facilities for future generations.”
The Harper Government’s investment of $206,454 will enhance the services provided by the arena. Four new dressing rooms, arena boards and reflective ceilings will be added in the arena. The food services and public viewing areas will also be renovated. The improvements will enhance safety, energy efficiency and extend its operating life. Once the upgrades are completed, the facility can be used for social and cultural events as well as hockey and curling.
I am extremely excited to see the federal government's support for this project," said Rouleau Mayor Grant Clarke. "
Combined with support from the provincial government, the extremely successful fund raising efforts of the Hockey and Hearts program and countless hours of volunteer time, we will provide Rouleau community youth with continued access to decades of sports and recreation. We can't say thank you enough."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
