Today, Tom Lukiwski, Member of Parliament for Regina—Lumsden—Lake Centre, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced a federal investment for the Town of Davidson to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.

"The Harper Government is strengthening our communities and boosting economic activity across Canada by investing in local infrastructure," said MP Lukiwski. "By upgrading the Davidson Community Hall, we are creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity."

Federal funding of $29,874 under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF) will support improvements to the Davidson Community Hall. Included are upgrades to the electrical system and the installation of a rooftop heating and cooling unit. Upgrades to this valued recreational facility will enhance the health and wellbeing of residents of the community and surrounding area.

"The Town of Davidson identifies the daily importance of the Community Town Hall. It is a constant hub of activity for residents and visitors. We have been working to upgrade our facility to meet needs of the community today and in the future," said Davidson Mayor Mary Jane Morrison. "The CIIF investment will enable us to offer the top rated hospitality facility that the province has come to expect in the "Midway Town" on the Louis Riel Trail. We are most grateful for the financial support of WD to enhance our project."

CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.

Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets.  By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
