Today, Tom Lukiwski, Member of Parliament for Regina-Lumsden-Lake Centre, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for the Simpson Centennial Centre under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“I am proud to see the Village of Simpson benefit from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund,
” said MP Lukiwski. “This investment will help create jobs and growth, and will support the prosperity of the community for years to come.
”
Federal funding of $2,150 will go towards upgrades to the water heater at the Centennial Centre. This will ensure the Centre can continue to enhance the health and wellbeing of users for years to come.
“We are grateful to be chosen as recipients for this investment,
” said Simpson Mayor, Don Janzen. “The Centennial Centre is the hub of our small community. We rely on rent and revenue generated by the food booth to cover everyday expenses of the community hall. Obviously a larger expense, such as the replacement of the hot water heater, puts a strain on our finances, so it’s a huge relief to receive this funding.
”
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
