The Town of Nipawin is moving forward with upgrades to the Centennial and Jubilee Arena Complex thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

Today, Randy Hoback, Member of Parliament for Prince Albert, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and Carrot River Valley MLA Fred Bradshaw, on behalf of the Honourable Jeremy Harrison, Minister of Municipal Affairs, announced federal and provincial funding for arena upgrades that will create jobs for Nipawin.

Investing in the Centennial and Jubilee Arena Complex will put Canadians to work, encourage greater participation in physical activity and use of recreational facilities, and ensure that communities across the West have access to the essential infrastructure we need today and in the future," said MP Hoback.

Funding of $500,000 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.  The Province of Saskatchewan is investing $750,000, bringing the federal-provincial contribution to $1.25 million on the total project amount of $2 million.

Upgrades to the arena include recladding and insulating the exterior walls, fixing code deficiencies, installing dehumidification, ventilation and make-up air systems, and upgrading the heating and lighting.  These improvements will bring the facility up to code and increase its safety and operating efficiency.

This investment will benefit the Town of Nipawin and allow for much-needed improvements to the Centennial and Jubilee Arena Complex,” said MLA Bradshaw.  “Working with our federal and municipal partners, we are helping ensure Saskatchewan people benefit and that Saskatchewan continues to move forward.

The Town of Nipawin greatly appreciates the funding of $500,000 through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.  We are also pleased with the additional funding of $750,000 from the Province of Saskatchewan.  These investments will bring much needed structural, mechanical, and code related improvements to the Centennial and Jubilee Arena Complex,” said Mayor Lawrence Rospad.

The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
