Statistical Reporting Overview

The following information provides additional context to the statistical details found in WD's 2015-2016 statistical report (Annex B – "Statistical Report on the Privacy Act").

  • Personal information collected by WD in the course of its programs and activities is being disclosed only for the purpose for which it was collected, in accordance with paragraph 8(2)(a) of the Privacy Act.
  • WD did not disclose personal information for any other purposes as outlined in paragraph 8(2)(m) during the 2015–2016 reporting period.
  • WD received no complaints pursuant to the Privacy Act in 2015–2016, and there were no appeals or applications submitted to the Federal Court.
  • WD did not complete any Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) in 2015–2016.
  • No material privacy breaches were reported in fiscal year 2015-2016.

Requests Received Pursuant to the Privacy Act

A. Formal Requests

For the period of April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016, WD received two formal requests for personal information pursuant to the Privacy Act. The department has not historically received many requests for personal information, resulting in a 200% increase from 2014-2015.

One personal information access request was completed during the reporting period. The second request was carried forward to 2016-2017.

In total, 180 pages were partially disclosed in 17 days for the completed request. As a result no extension was required. Section 26 was applied to information that was withheld.

B. Personal Information Consultations

WD received one privacy consultation during the period of April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016, from another level of government. In total, the department recommended partial disclosure of 31 of 53 pages. The consultation was completed in seven days.

Operational Costs Associated with Administering the Act

WD’s cost for administrating the Privacy Act in the ATIP Unit include a portion of the ATIP Coordinator’s and Deputy ATIP Coordinator’s salaries, and 10 percent of the ATIP Officer’s salary (a total of .17 FTE/year). Other costs pertaining to goods and services, including professional services contracts and other expenses, including supplies, are reported in the annual statistical report (see Annex B). The total cost reported was $15,321.

Additional departmental costs for which incorporate estimates for other departmental officials to retrieve, review and make recommendations concerning records responding to personal information requests and translation of privacy-related products totalled $748, and are not captured in the statistical report, but provide a more complete picture of the overall cost of $16,069 to the department to administer all aspects of its activities related to the Privacy Act.
